Macon
Capitol Theatre
Macon's Capitol Theatre opened in 1916 as a downtown cinema and was later rescued from decades of vacancy for live music and community events. Its marquee and balcony preserve the early movie-palace frame, but the restored room now behaves like a compact Georgia music hall.

The president who filed a report
On the evening of January 6, 1969, state senator Jimmy Carter — about to address a Lions Club meeting in Leary, Georgia — watched a self-luminous object change color and apparent size for ten minutes, alongside roughly twenty witnesses. He filed the report formally with the International UFO Bureau in 1973, and during his 1976 campaign promised — and as president never delivered — full release of every UFO file the government held. Leary is about 130 miles southwest of Macon.
