Roswell
The Liberty
The Liberty is a downtown Roswell live-music room and event space with a compact concert floor, patio space, and a built-in sense of desert-roadside oddity. It reads more like a flexible social hall than a formal theater, which makes it a fitting first signal from UFO country.

The genre's origin point
Roswell is where the modern UFO mythos starts. In July 1947 rancher Mac Brazel recovered metallic debris from a field northwest of town; within a day the Roswell Army Air Field walked back its own "flying disc" press release and called it a weather balloon. The Liberty sits three blocks from the International UFO Museum, which has been running on that contradiction for thirty-five years.
